EDO 2024 | Panic in Obaseki’s PDP Camp — gov not pressing addressing issues | METROWATCH

"My people and supporters, here in Edo South have been asking questions, but I cannot begin to manufacture answers and deceive them. I will lose my hard earned credibility, support and respect among my people if I so do."

Ahead of the September 21 governorship election in Edo state, fears within the camp of incumbent Governor Godwin Obaseki has continued to heighten by the days.

As reports of palpable panic within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) camp of Obaseki gain more traction, it was gathered that some concerned individuals within his inner caucus unsuccessfully sought to meet with the governor to clarify the worrisome situation.

A reliable source and member of the supposed inner causes while expressing dismay at the turn of events barely few weeks to the election, confessed having a second thought about his continued support for the governor and Asue Ighodalo, the anointed successor and Edo PDP standard bearer.

Speaking on the sidelines of their failed efforts to run minds with Obaseki on the development, the source, who craved anonymity, for fear of the obvious, vowed to redefine his position and support for the PDP Obaseki camp within the next fortnight.

He stated: “I’m completely fed up with what is going on here. Not only is the party (PDP) seriously haemorrhaging, His Excellency (Obaseki) has not been making our situation better. As it is, we cannot even access him.

“With all that we have been hearing and seeing, some of us have made series of efforts to meet and dialogue with His Excellency, to clarify things, give us assurance and bring about some modicum of confidence in our strength and chances going into this very crucial election, but we have so far been unsuccessful. To me, our initiatives so far has been rebuffed… completely and I may have to decide on what my next line of action will be, after due consultation with my supporters of course.

“My people and supporters, here in Edo South have been asking questions, but I cannot begin to manufacture answers and deceive them. I will lose my hard earned credibility, support and respect among my people if I so do. I will not. Let’s wait and see; by the next two weeks I will make my position known publicly on the way to go.”

Further investigations revealed that the mindset of the dwindling number of PDP stalwarts in the governor’s camp is no different, with many expressing concern over what they described as the many challenges assailing the party on different fronts.

“I am not comfortable with the situation right now. Not many will be willing to say it out out tell you, but it is very worrisome,” intoned another party leader.
