Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo has described the annual Eid-el-Kabir celebration as a sacred season of faith, sacrifice, obedience and compassion, urging Muslims and Nigerians to continue to pray for peace, unity and progress of the country.
The governor, who was represented by his Deputy, Mr Dennis Idahosa, stated this during the Eid-el-Kabir celebration with Muslim faithful held at the Government House in Benin on Wednesday.
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to fairness, inclusivity and equal opportunities for all residents irrespective of religion and tribe.
According to him, the present administration remains determined to build a government that reflects the diversity of Edo, noting that competent and qualified Muslims have continued to play vital roles in his government.
“As a government, we remain committed to fairness, inclusivity and equal opportunity for every Edo resident, irrespective of religion, ethnicity or political affiliation.
“This is why competent Muslims are serving in key positions in our administration,” he said.
He appreciated the Muslim community in Edo for their unwavering support and continuous prayers for his administration, noting that such prayers and support have contributed immensely to the peace, and development being witnessed in Edo.
Speaking earlier, the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Ikhilor, commended Okpebholo for his support and goodwill toward the Muslim community in Edo.
Ikhilor described the governor as a leader, who has consistently demonstrated love, fairness and inclusiveness in governance.
In his remarks, the Chief Imam of Edo, Abdulfatai Enabulele, lauded the governor for what he described as remarkable developmental strides recorded in less than two years in office.
