A university lecturer and consultant to the Delta State Government on Education, Professor Patrick Muoboghare, has warned States in the country against the possible temptation or, perhaps pressure of yielding to the Federal Government’s concept of cattle colony.
Prof. Muoboghare, who gave the warning at the weekend in Asaba, the Delta State capital during the official unveiling of Delta State capital Territory Business Directory authored by the Chairman, Delta State Investment Development Agency (DIDA), Ogbueshi Afam Obiago, said that the warning became imperative as the concept, according to him, is a time bomb that would do no one any good.
The university don, who was a former Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education in the state, lauded some state governments, particularly Delta State who have opposed vehemently the Federal government concept, just as he urged them to remain resolute on their decision.
Professor Muoboghare who presented a lecture on the topic; “The Sensitivity of Investments To Insecure Environment; The Role of Stakeholders” at he event, noted that the activities of herdsmen in the state is already threatening the cooperate existence of the country-Nigeria as it is also, veating the drum of ‘war’.
While calling on the Federal government to seek urgent possible ways of taming the tide rather than proposing the concept of cattle colony, the former commissioner stressed that the trend is already taking its toll on the business environment in the country as investors, both local and foreign direct investors are already being threatened.
The situation, Muoboghare posited, is getting worse by the day as according to him, it is already increasing the unemployment ratio in the country as well as acceleration the rate of crime commission just as he urged the federal government to take decisive positive step in curtailing it.
“There should be nothing like colony; no state government should yield to the temptation of accepting it. Colony is colony, no matter who you try to polish it. It will definitely worsen the security situation in the country.
“In fact, come to think of it, who says that it is only Fulanis that can rear Cow? Who says that Deltans cannot rear cow. Who says that an Edo person cannot rear cow. That is a deceit at the highest order which must not be allowed to see the light if the day” Muoboghare stated.
