Soldier goes Berserk, Kills Commander, Sergeant Major in Sokoto

The Nigerian Army has declared 43 soldiers wanted for reportedly abandoning their deployment in Borno State, where they were assigned to fight Boko Haram insurgents.

According to Sahara Reporters, these soldiers, posted to the 403 Amphibious Brigade in Baga under the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), were expected to report by October 31, but they have not returned, leading to disciplinary actions.

Military authorities have also frozen the bank accounts of the soldiers and notified other army formations across the country to arrest them if seen.

Instructions were given for any soldier with knowledge of the absentees’ location to inform military authorities immediately.

This action comes as the army deals with an increasing trend of resignations from its ranks, particularly from soldiers in the North-East who have cited extended deployments and morale issues.

Some soldiers have shown interest in joining foreign military forces, including those in the United Kingdom and Ukraine.

The Nigerian Army maintained that its procedures for voluntary discharge are transparent and follow set guidelines, allowing personnel to leave service through formal processes.

However, the cases of soldiers abandoning their posts continue to raise questions about conditions on the frontlines.

Below are the personnel declared wanted;
