Gov Okpebholo Signs Bill to Establish New Nursing College in Esanland

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo has signed into law a bill for the establishment of Edo State College of Nursing, Health Sciences and Technology in Udomi-Uwessan community of Irrua, Esan Central Local Government Area of the State.

Okpebholo, who signed the bill in his office in Government House Benin City, on Monday, said the school, when established, will open up the area for growth and development as well as create employment opportunities for the Edo people.

The Governor, while appreciating the working synergy between the legislative and the executive in the State, appealed for its sustenance stressing that, such a harmonious relationship will aid rapid development and growth in the State.

He said: “Let me congratulate the Edo State House of Assembly for this bill this bill they recently passed and have now brought to my office today for assent.

“I am most greatful for the kind of cooperation I am receiving from the Legislative arm. I want to also let you know that Edo people are happy with what we are doing and how we are working together in harmony. This bill today is a dream come through for the Udomi Community as they have been clamouring for this developmental stride in the area.

“The Legislative House has maintained a good and brotherly relationship with the Executive arm of government for the growth and development of Edo State, I pray such continue so that Edo people can fully enjoy the dividends of democracy.

“Our relationship will enable us work for Edo people. I assure you that we will work hard together to improve the lives of Edo people.”

The Governor noted that the bill “Edo State College of Nursing, Health Sciences and Technology Law, Udomi, 2025 and other matters connected therewith”, will create the atmosphere for the establishment of the school that will make state an envy of other states in the Federation.

“While the school is established, it will open up the communities in Uwessan, ensure growth, development and create employment in the areas and place Edo State in a map that the State will be recognized through the school and hospital built for the benefits of the people.

“This is an opportunity for us to showcase our administration and it’s a laudable project to be carried out in Edo State.”

The speaker, Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku who led the lawmakers to Government House for assent to the bill, commended the governor for embarking on developmental projects to improve the lives of Edo people.

Agbebaku said: “Members of the 8th House of Assembly are in your office today. Last Month, a letter was sent to us in the EDHA in pursuit of your developmental stride, a law was sent to us in the house to enact Edo State College of Nursing, Health Sciences and Technology Law, Udomi, 2025 and other matters connected therewith.

“The House has critically looked at the bill and we found out that the bill is laudable and will lead to development. We did what we ought to do, and today we are here with the bill for your assent.

“In accordance with section 100 sub-section 1, 2, 4 and 5 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended, we are here for your assent.

“Assenting to this bill today is a welcome development to the people of Udomi, Uwessan and Edo State in General as it is the State school of Nursing, Udomi which will enable rapid development in Esan Central Local Governments area of Edo State and by extension Edo State.”
