Gowon Visits Tinubu, Commends Leadership, Says President Doing His Best for Nigeria

Former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (retd), has commended President Bola Tinubu for his leadership and the efforts of his administration in addressing the challenges facing Nigeria, particularly in the areas of the economy and national security.

Gowon made the remarks on Saturday when he paid a courtesy visit to the President at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The former Nigerian leader, speaking to journalists said he was at the State House to express appreciation to President Tinubu for what he described as “the good work he is doing for the country.”

“I came to see him and to thank him for all the good work that he’s doing for the country,” the former Head of State told journalists after the meeting.

“We had to look at all the good work that the President is doing and the progress that Nigeria is making economically and otherwise.”

Responding to questions on areas where he would like to see improvement, Gowon maintained that President Tinubu was performing well across different sectors.

“Isn’t he doing the best he can all round? So, there is no particular area,” he stated. “Every other area — political, economic, social, etc. — he’s doing well. Of course, the major problem that we have today is security, and he is doing everything to deal with those challenges for the good of all Nigerians.

“There is no particular place he has to focus on specially; he’s looking after the interests of Nigeria in all areas, and I’m happy about that.”

Gowon, who is widely regarded as a voice of peace, also urged Nigerians to remain patient and supportive of the government’s efforts to restore stability and unity in the country.

“If I say that the problem that is happening today, it is only the government — that’s Mr. President — that can really deal with it, and he’s dealing with it the best he can without creating any problem for Nigeria and for the country,” Gowon said.

“So, I can assure you, the government is handling it the best it can to ensure that Nigeria, in the end, can achieve the peace that it requires and deserves.”

He expressed confidence that the Tinubu administration would continue to make progress in its efforts to deliver good governance and maintain national cohesion.
