A non-governmental organisation, called the ‘I Stand with Buhari Movement’ (ISWBM), on Wednesday organised a rally on the major streets of Awka, Anambra, to celebrate President Muhammadu Buhari’s victory in the Feb. 23 election.
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the group, which carried a huge banner, marched round the metropolis, dancing jubilantly and chanting victory songs.
Addressing newsmen, Dr. Chekwube Ijioma, the coordinator of the group in the state, said they were also using the opportunity to appreciate Nigerians for their massive support for Buhari.
Ijioma said that the group was hopeful that things would get better for all Nigerians, adding that every part of the country, including the South-East would get a better deal.
He said that the victory had set the country on the path of sustainable development.
He said: ”Today we are celebrating the re-election of Buhari and we are very happy.
”We the people of South-East and the people of the entire southern Nigeria congratulate him.”
Ijioma urged the president to see his victory as an opportunity to prove those that misunderstood him wrong.
”We expect more dividend of democracy, more infrastructure and greater inclusiveness.
”The president promised to carry everybody along and now that we are in the next level, it will only get better,” he said.
Another prominent member of the group, Adaeze Anaekwe, said the group was excited that their love and support for Buhari “did not go in vain.”
Anaekwe said that the victory meant a new beginning for economic and political progress for Nigeria.
