For Afrobeats artiste Emeizy, music is not separated from culture. Born Patrick Emerald Iruoghene and raised in Ozoro, Isoko North, Delta State, the artiste says his African heritage continues to influence his sound and artistic direction.
Emeizy combines contemporary Afrobeats with elements of African culture, languages and everyday experiences. His approach allows him to explore subjects ranging from love and relationships to personal struggles, aspirations and life around him.
His cultural influences can be heard in songs such as “VIBEZ,” where he incorporates elements of the Isoko language.
He also explored another Nigerian language in “SAD TRUTH,” featuring Yagaa. Because Yagaa is Igbo, Emeizy incorporated some Igbo into the song, describing the decision as a reflection of Nigeria’s cultural diversity.
The artiste says he hopes to explore more Nigerian languages, including Yoruba and Hausa, in future projects, reinforcing his belief that Nigeria’s many languages and cultures can coexist within contemporary music.
