IGP to Meet Protesting Retired Officers over Pension Demands

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has pledged to personally engage with retired police officers protesting over poor retirement benefits.

The assurance was conveyed through the Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Command.

It was reported that the presidential candidate of African Action Congress, AAC, in the 2023 elections, Omoyele Sowore and other activists led retired police officers on a protest in Abuja on Monday.

The protest is to demand improved welfare for serving and retired personnel of the Nigeria Police Force.

In a post on its official X handle on Monday, the Nigeria Police Force said that the FCT commissioner has met with the protesting retirees.

According to statement, arrangements have been made for the IGP to meet with them at the Peacekeeping Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja.

The statement noted that some individuals with ulterior motive attempted to hijack the protest.
