The Nigerian aviation authorities on Friday said the incident which occurred at the Ilorin Airport did not affect flight operations.
A trainee pilot who flew solo on aircraft No 5N-BRM, belonging to the International Aviation College, veered off the runway at the Ilorin Airport on Thursday.
Mr Yakubu Dati, the Coordinating General Manager (Communications), Aviation Parastatals, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that no casualty was recorded.
“No casualty was recorded from the incident. The aircraft stopped safely a few metres beside the runway.
“Flights into the airport were not disrupted as a result of the incident.
“The Accident Investigation and Prevention Bureau (AIPB) and other relevant agencies are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident,’’ Dati said.
He said that the incident was not unusual in an aviation training institution.
