The Sunday Conversation | with Pastor Luke Okoro

Matthew 5:13-16; 28: 18-20 Romans 12:9-21. Philippians 1:29, Galatians 2:20.

“Ye are the salt of the earth, but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? It is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.
Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on the hill cannot be hid.
Neither do men light a candle and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and
it gives light unto all that are in the house.
Let your light so shine before all men that they may see your good works and glorify your father which is in heaven” Matthew 5:13-16.

The passage above is Jesus’ blue print for a life that pleases God. And only a man in the spirit of God can fulfil this demand. To be salt and light as a child of God demands more than just going to church and making claims of being born again. For sure, no man living in the ordinariness of the flesh can please God. because God is a Spirit and anybody who must please Him must also be in the spirit. Besides, carnal man is sinful and a carnal man cannot please God because his thoughts are continually evil. This explains why Jesus came to put us on the same page in order that mortal man can live to please God. With Jesus in us, being salt and light, will be achievable.
Therefore, to please God, man must first acknowledge God as Sovereign over his life. Such a man must know God as the Creator of the universe, the King of kings, the LORD of lords and the Maker of the heaven and earth. And that, man is programmed to live here on earth by God — before Whom all flesh will return to, on the DAY appointed to account for all deeds in death and judgement. Hebrews 9:27. Salt will preserve you unto that Day. And the light that you are will lighten your darkness o that same Day, when all men would confess that Jesus is the Son of the Living God, and, also bow before Him in holy reverence and humble adoration. Amen.

Strangely, several people, men and women, do not have this graceful humility to acknowledge God as their LORD and Master, the Creator of heaven and earth. Such people believe that man was a happenstance on earth. And that by the time humans are done on earth, like dramatists, they will fade away for others to take their stage. This is a dangerous belief and anybody consumed by it is a risk factor to deal with in life, in business and in career. Such a person is a fool before God. Psalms 14:1.

Yet, knowing God is the beginning of a life that is unto pleasing to Him. Indeed, a carnal man cannot live to please God because he does not believe in God and His ability to save him as a sinner. The Bible tells us that a fool says there is no God. If we believe that God created us, it becomes easy to accept the reality of life being a gift from God. When a person comes to this understanding, living to please God will become agreeable with our consciousness, our belief system and our daily aspiration. Until we see life as a gift from God, it will be impossible to please God.

What does it mean to please God?

To please God is to do things to satisfy God, to make God happy with our conduct, our choices and our character. To please God is to recognize God as our LORD and Saviour and the owner of our lives. To please God also means doing things in ways that God would have done them. For instance, Solomon represented God when he gave judgement in the case of the two women over the motherhood of the living child. The judgement pleased God. Pleasing God demands that we live to do the will of God always.

Pleasing God is like thinking in line with God, and of the mind of His Son Jesus which we should have . Philippians 2:5.
The child should have the father’s spirit. Therefore we must have the Spirit of our Father God who is also a Spirit in whom we derive our being and our existence. Pleasing God demands that we represent God as His ambassadors and whose image we bear , and by whose Son Jesus Christ we were healed, made whole and sealed in the Holy Ghost. Amen.

When a believer begins to live in ways that displease God, it means that such a believer never believed, has fallen out of grace or has backslidden and has become a reprobate. And there are so many reprobates hanging around the church today, claiming to be working for a God they have not ENCOUNTERED. When Apostle Paul met Jesus, it was clear. You cannot pass through the crucibles of Calvary and remain the same. Hear Apostle Paul’s confession years later:
Galatians 2:20: ” I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet, not I, but the life which I now live in the flesh, I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me”.

Philippians 1:29-30: ” For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake;
Having the same conflict which ye saw in me, and now hear to be in me”.

No doubt, living to please God would be impossible when a man has not received the transforming impact of Jesus Christ. That encounter will give you the spirit of righteousness, the spirit of truth and power with which the rest of the things pertaining to life and godliness are based upon. This further explains why Paul affirmed before the Jews that he makes every effort to have a conscience devoid of offence before God and men. Acts 24:16.
As a child of God, what is your conscience telling you about your pattern of living? Are. you pleasing God?.
