Man Who Allegedly Impregnated Daughter Twice Arrested over Armed Robbery






An incestuous man, Augustine Obodoke, has been paraded by the police authorities in Benin City, Edo State, with four other suspects over their alleged involvement in armed robbery case in the city and environs.
Obodoke, whose age and state of origin was not disclosed by the police, was also accused of having severally defiled his daughter, whom he was said to have impregnated twice and aborted same.
The police also said Obodoke’s other partners-in-crime, as paraded, were shown to newsmen as suspected conspirators that had put heads together and withdrew N29,893, 000 using their victim’s automated teller machine (ATM) card.
According the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Foluso Adebanjo, on October 30, 2013 a member of staff of Eco Bank reported a case of conspiracy and stealing of the sum of N29,893,000 from the bank via Eco Bank Visa ATM Card.
He said upon this report, operatives of the command commenced investigation which led to the arrest of five suspected fraudsters who have confessed to the crime stating their various involvement.
They were also accused of being responsible for the recent killing of policemen at the Benin by-pass.
The suspects, according to the police boss, are Oyonokpave Abel (m), Oyonokpave Sunny (m), Jessica Triaye (f), Josephine Eberunworwi (f), and Great Okuoboye (m).
The four policemen that were killed were deployed from the Osun State police command for a special election duty in Anambra State.
The victims were said to have been stopped by the armed robbers, who reportedly blocked the road.
The commissioner further said: “The policemen, unaware that the blockade was mounted by armed robbers, had stopped, only to be attacked by the armed robbers.”
In a related development, another set of four members of the underworld was gunned down on Tuesday morning in the the city in two separate encounters with policemen of the state police command.
Briefing journalists at the headquarters of the state police command in Benin City, Adebanjo said in the first encounter at the Benin by-pass on the Benin/Lagos Expressway, 20 armed robbers engaged the police in a shoot-out and in the process one of the robbers was killed, while a policeman sustained gun injury on his leg.
He said the other armed robbers escaped into the bush, some of whom he did that with suspected bullet injuries.
According to him, in the second encounter that occurred on the Benin/Auchi Road, three members of an armed robbery gang, who had laid siege on the road, were killed by the police, who engaged the robbers in a shoot-out.
Speaking with journalists, one of the arrested suspects, Muhammadu Abdulahi Umaru, 29, denied being part of the gang that killed the policemen.
Although he agreed to have taken part in similar operations thrice in the past in Enugu State, he however said his shares from the proceeds were N5,000, N6,000 and N30,000, respectively.
He, however, confessed to have joined a new robbery gang in Aduwawa area of Benin City, adding, “I don’t know who killed police (sic). We don’t have real guns but carved guns which we use to block road “.
In all, 43 suspects were paraded for various offences ranging from armed robbery, unlawful possession of fire arms and hard drugs (cannabis), cultism, conspiracy and fraud, car snatching, murder and rape.
