A fire outbreak on Friday destroyed properties worth millions in a business centre located at No.1C Ogoja Road, opposite Government
Owner of the shop, Mr. David Chibuzor, said he was informed of the incident by security men on patrol who called him on phone and when he arrived the scene, he discovered that the fire had destroyed everything.
The actual cause of the incident was unknown but Chibuzor said it equally destroyed a shop near his own and some parts of the building that houses the shops.
Chibuzor, who wept uncontrollably, lamented that he lost property worth millions of naira including N200,000 of recharge card supplied to him by MTN communications, which he said he has not remitted to his suppliers.
Other items consumed by the fire incident included computer sets, photocopiers, printers, generating sets, among others.
He said “I cannot ascertain the cause of the fire which also destroyed a shop near my shop and some parts of the building that houses the shops. I lost properties worth millions of naira, even as I am owing MTN Communications N200,000 of cards they supplied me on credit”.
Chief Fire Officer of the state, Mr. Simon Mkpuma, said it took the quick intervention of his officers to put off the fire.
“We arrived the scene on time and ensured that we put off the fire which could have caused severe harm having occurred early in the
morning when people were still asleep.
Mkpuma called on the citizens of the state to always switch-off their electrical appliances before sleeping or going out, to avert fire
disasters especially as the harmattan season approaches.
