The triple explosion which took place in Gwoza in Borno state during a wedding ceremony on Saturday has claimed the life of an undergraduate of the national open university (NOUN). The Maiduguri Study Centre of NOUN has been thrown into mourning by the incident.
The management of NOUN in Maiduguri Study Centre has since commiserated with the family of Danjuma Garawa, one of the victims of the triple blasts Saturday, which claimed aver 25 lives and wounded over a hundred victims.
Until his death, sources close to the management told metrowatchonline.com , Danjuma was an undergraduate student in the department of environmental science management of the University.
Meanwhile, the United Nations resident and humanitarian coordinator in Nigeria, Mohammed Malick Fall has strongly condemned the suicide bomb attacks on civilian populations in the Gwoza council area of Borno State.
A statement from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) stated that though the exact number of people killed and injured remains unknown, but it appears that dozens of people have reportedly been killed and others seriously injured.
“I am horrified by this attack on civilian populations and condemn such acts in the strongest terms. I stand in solidarity with the Government of Nigeria, and the families and communities of all those affected.
“On behalf of the United Nations, I remind all parties to the conflict to adhere to their obligations under international humanitarian law to protect civilians from harm.
“I have reached out to the Borno State Government to express my condolences and offer any support that the United Nations and the humanitarian community can provide to aid the victims of the attack”, said the humanitarian coordinator.
