We Have Never Had it So Bad in Nigeria, But…, By Ekiti Speaker

The Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Right Honourable (Pastor) Kola Oluwawole, has expressed regret that the nation has not had the economy this bad in history, decrying the situation that people who are gainfully employed engage in theft of food items.
According to a statement by his Special Assistant (Media), Stephen Gbadamosi, the cleric cum lawmaker, who made this comment when he was presenting food items to members of the Muslim community in parts of Moba Local Government Area of Ekiti State in commemoration of Eid-el-Fitri celebration, at the weekend, however, gave words of hope.
Oluwawole, who was received by the Moba Muslim Umah, led by the Chief Imam of Otun-Ekiti, Sheik Abdulsalam Onipede Opeloyemi; Chief Imam of Osun-Ekiti, Alhaji Raji Abdilhamid; and that of Osan-Ekiti, Alhaji Tiyamiyu Abdulraheem, advised the people of the state to show understanding with the government, adding that there was hope that the hardship would eventually vanish.
“We should have done this before the end of Ramadan, but I am happy our people have shown understanding of the current reality on ground. You are our pillar and you will continue to be. We know your roles when we were canvassing for votes. What we have done is a widow’s mite; please, accept it. When next we are doing such a thing as this, it will be better. Our suffering will not last long.
“A situation where employed people engage in theft of food items because they cannot get paid for the works they have done is unpalatable and should not last long; we have heard such cases from across the country,” the Speaker said.
The Muslim leaders, in their various remarks, expressed gratitude to the lawmaker for not forgetting the people of his constituency. They affirmed that they knew that the country and the state were not having it rosy economically at the moment, but expressed that they would continue to support the governments with prayers.
They prayed for the Ayodele Fayose-led government in the state, the speaker and top leaders of the government, expressing conviction that no enemy of the administration would overcome it.
Oluwawole was also received on the tour of the constituencies by the Olosan of Osan-Ekiti, Oba (Alhaji) Tajudeen Jimoh; Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders, including the Local Government Chairman, Mr. Adeniyi Adebayo.
