Nigeria at 64: Governor-elect Okpebholo Pays Tribute to Edo People, Congratulates Nigerians

The Edo State Governor-elect, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has once again extended his profound gratitude to the great people of Edo State, for his historic landmark victory at the polls on Saturday, the 21st of September, 2024.

The Senator made the statement on Tuesday to commemorate Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day Anniversary.

“Fellow Edolites and dear residents of our beloved state:

“On this special day, after our historic landmark victory at the polls, I wish to once again express my gratitude, for this great privilege to address you as the Governor-elect of Edo State on this auspicious occasion of Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day celebration.

“Undoubtedly, Nigeria is still a work in progress and we are challenged everyday to keep building despite the various challenges and obstacles that we face. If we look back over the years, we can say confidently that there is every reason to be thankful to God in the past 64 years of our nationhood.”

The Governor-elect seized the auspicious occasion to once again extend his hand of fellowship to other candidates who contested with him in the just concluded governorship election in Edo State.

“Our diversity in 1960 became a source of strength, and the new leaders as at that time resolved to carry the flag of independence for the benefit of future generations. Of course, they had their differences, but they placed a greater premium on the need to come together to build a new Nigeria.

“Today, I wish to sieze this auspicious moment to once again stretch forth my hand of fellowship to my brothers who contested with me in the September 21st Edo governorship election with a view to join hands together to build a new Edo of our collective dream.

“My prospective administration will be open to ideas and positive suggestions that will help to shape and move Edo State forward. The governorship election is over, it is time to come together to fix our beloved state. We have a duty as Edolites, and whatever may be our political differences or prejudices, we must always put Edo first!

“Our politics should be an art of patriotic labour and selfless service to the people, particularly by the political elites who are placed in positions of great trust and responsibility.”

According to Senator Okpebholo, “the journey of nationhood is a marathon, which requires patience, resilience, tolerance and determination. The challenges of this time cannot be compared to the limitless progress and prosperity ahead of all us.

“Therefore, I humbly urge all to be patient with the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, because his administration is committed to finding sustainable solutions to alleviate the suffering of all Nigerians. Mr President’s well-intentioned policies and initiatives are tailored towards the greater good of all Nigerians.”

The Governor-elect assures the people of Edo State and residents that his administration will engender a new lease of life.

“I want to assure the great people of Edo State and residents that my administration will offer a new lease of life and opportunity to renew our drive towards attaining greater heights and secure our shared dreams and common vision.

“I have an unshakable belief in the future of our great State. Therefore, I shall devote the totality of my being to create a buoyant Edo where both indegene and non-indigene, the rich and not-so-rich, and the poor, will engage in pursuit of happiness unhindered by any form of primordial classification.

“I am confident that Nigeria will surely be a source of pride to its citizens; to Africa and the Black Race and to Humanity; a land that is known for freedom, progress, peace and the promotion of human dignity.”

Senator Okpebholo further congratulated Nigerians on the occasion of this year’s Independence day anniversary, and urge citizens to remain steadfast and rediscover that special spirit that enables us to triumph over every adversity as a people with shared hope and aspiration.
