The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), has continued the roll-out of enrolment centres with the recent launch of its special centres beginning with the Nigerian Air Force location across the federation.
Director, Corporate Communication, NIMC, Mr. Anthony Okwudiafor, said this is in order to have a comprehensive national identity database and the plan is to have at least one centre in each location of the Nigerian Air Force bases across the country.
Already, 10 of the proposed Centres have become functional, while the remaining 11 would become operational before the end of January 2014.
The functional NAF base enrolment centres are located in Benue, Cross River, Delta, Kaduna, Kano, Oyo, Kwara, Kastina, Lagos, Niger state and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja, while the centres awaiting deployment are located in Edo, Enugu, Rivers, Abuja, Osun, Plateau, Sokoto, Adamawa, Borno, and Bayelsa States respectively.
With the establishment of the Centres at NAF Bases, Mr. Okwudiafor said, members of the armed forces and their families are being given appropriate opportunities to enrol towards meeting the Presidential mandate of December 31, 2014 in a progressive manner.
He added: “With the commencement of enrolment at the NAF bases, efforts will now shift to other military and paramilitary Institutions and Locations.
As a special centre, Mr. Okwudiafor, noted that those who have used the pre-enrolment portal www.ninenrol.nimc.gov.ng which the Commission set-up, that allows individuals to access the pre-enrolment form online for demographic enrolment, will be given preferential attention at these Centres. The pre-enrolment portal reduces the time an enrolee spends at any Enrolment Centre.
“Nigerians are advised to log onto the NIMC pre-registration portal, fill the Enrolment form properly, submit it online and print on a sheet of paper, the resultant 2D Bar Code and thereafter visit any Enrolment Centre nearest to them for their biometric data (fingerprints, photo and signature) capture with the printed summary sheet (2D Barcode) and any evidence of address or identity claimed, to complete the enrolment process,” Mr. Okwudiafor added.
