The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has stated that there is no evidence of Christian genocide in Nigeria.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, made this known on Tuesday while appearing as a guest on Politics Today, a programme on Channels Television.

His remarks followed the recent declaration by United States President Donald Trump, who designated Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” over allegations of Christian genocide.

Trump claimed he had directed the U.S. Defence Department to prepare for possible military action in Nigeria if the Nigerian government “continues to allow the killing of Christians.”

Reacting to the allegation, the ADC spokesman said, “I cannot say there is evidence of genocide and from what we have seen we cannot describe what is going on as genocide.

“The question is not about how the Americans are framing it. The question is that people are being killed in Nigeria and we have the opportunity to let the Americans know that there’s no genocide going on in Nigeria.”
