Two employees of Gombe State Social and Community Development Agency, (also known as Gombe marshals) have been killed by some restive youths, Alhaji Ahmed Yayari, the Chief of Staff to Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo, has disclosed.
Speaking at the inauguration of a nongovernmental organisation, Gombe Unity and Development Forum yesterday, Yayari said it was unfortunate that two employees of the Gombe State Social and Community Development Agency, also known as marshals were killed three days ago.
Yayari while advising the youth to shun vices that can destroy their future, especially kalare activities, said: “Three days ago, two of our marshals were killed just behind the Gombe Emir’s Palace, near the house of Kwami Local Government Chairman, Ali Jijji, by some of these reckless youths.
“What is the benefit of killing someone, I am pleading with our youths to shy away from such a bad habit because it will not lead them anywhere. It will only destroy your future. This should be the last time we would see such occurring in Gombe,” He said.
It could be recalled that the Chief of Staff had made a similar appeal about two weeks ago at Kumo, Akko Local Government Area of the state, when youths clashed, leaving many of them with various degrees of bad injuries.
Kalare activities had in recent past been the bane of school drop-outs in Gombe, who see political thuggery as the only available option.
However, on assumption of office, Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo immediately commenced a youth rehabilitation programme through the state Agency for Social and Community development, to salvage the situation.
But with 2015 around the corner, Kalare activities (Youth restiveness) are on the increase, thus causing panic among the populace in some areas.
