*Federal University, Zamfara students -- struck by kidnappers

By Sam Kayode
The students abducted from three ladies hostel in  Federal University Bungudu, Gusau in Zamfara State has now risen from 24 to 35.
Bandits had stormed three female hostels in the Federal University in Zamfara on Friday at about 3am breaking down doors, shattering windows and abducting 24 female students of the Federal University in Bungudu Zamfara
state.
As they marched their victims into the savanna, the bandits also took 10 workers of the  Federal University from their homes not far from the crime scene  and a security guard, eye witnesses revealed to newsmen over the weekend.
Our source said he was awake after hearing some commotion outside and when he looked through his window he saw some men with guns kicking doors.
Zamfara state Governor’s spokesperson,  Usman Umar, confirmed that 35 people from the university were taken in what looks like the first major abduction involving students in the state this year.
He however added that there is hope for the rescue of the ladies from the hands of the bandits as six of them have been set free through the efforts of the Nigerian Airforce who trailed the marauding criminals.
Bandits militia have taken siege of the northwest of Nigeria recently, leaving kidnapping for ransom, looting, destruction, sorry, tears and blood in their trails.
Kidnappings is a tactic used by  insurgents and  the bandit militia to intimidate residents and make money by demanding of  ransom payments before such abducted are released.
