The National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) has called off its seven-day warning strike, which began on Tuesday, July 29.
It was gathered that the decision to call off the strike was endorsed at the emergency meeting of the National Executive Council (NEC) of NANNM on Saturday, following a meeting with the federal government delegation led by the Minister of Health, Prof Muhammad Ali Pate.
The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof Muhammad Ali Pate, on Friday, announced that the nurses’ association had called off the strike, but the union countered the statement a few hours later, causing some confusion.
An official of the association told our correspondent that only the NEC of the association can decide on the nationwide strike, and not the minister or any official of the government.
