Police in Jigawa State have recommended drivers to seek third-party insurance to prevent humiliation.

SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, the Command’s spokesman, stated this in a statement released to journalists on Sunday.

He stated that the decision is in accordance with a directive given by the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, to all state police commissioners.

According to him, the directive is in accordance with Section 68 of the Insurance Act 2003.

The Command urged motorists to obtain a valid third-party insurance policy from only licensed insurance entities authorized by the National Insurance Commission to transact motor insurance business in the country.

The Command therefore advised vehicle owners who lacked insurance to obtain it as soon as possible to avoid embarrassment.

The police commissioner however warned officers to maintain a high level of professionalism, respect human rights and avoid extortion.
