The Federal Polytechnic Oko Alumni Association says activities marking its 40th anniversary will begin with a novelty football match.

It said the match is aimed at fostering unity and celebrating the institution’s strides in technology and innovation.

The association said this on Tuesday in a statement signed by its President, Nze Henry Nnebe, and Chairman, Board of Trustees, Victor Orji.

The association said the anniversary, themed “FPO Alumni @ 40: Excellence in Technology and Innovation,” will highlight achievements in technology and innovation.

According to the association, the novelty match will involve alumni, staff and stakeholders in a friendly encounter to foster camaraderie ahead of other activities.

“It is designed not only to commemorate 40 years but also to chart a forward-looking path centred on innovation-driven development,” it said.

The association noted that the celebration would showcase alumni contributions to technological advancement, knowledge sharing and institutional growth.

It added that alumni lectures would address “Four Decades of Excellence: Rooted in Heritage, Advancing Knowledge through Innovation and Technology.”

The three-day event, scheduled for the last quarter of the year, will combine intellectual engagements with social and commemorative activities.

It said the novelty football match will precede a gala night to honour distinguished individuals for their contributions to the institution.

The main event will feature an anniversary lecture and the launch of a publication entitled “The Journey So Far.”

The association said notable contributors will be honoured with portraits in the Alumni Museum’s Hall of Fame.

The celebration will end with an interdenominational thanksgiving service.

The alumni body called on stakeholders to support the initiative to strengthen partnerships and promote innovation.
