Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has dedicated Galatasaray’s 2-1 victory over Fenerbahçe to head coach Okan Buruk following their Turkish Super Lig derby clash on Monday night.
Osimhen scored twice in the first half to help the defending champions secure the crucial victory at RAMS Park, strengthening their position in the race for the league title.
The Nigerian international opened the scoring in the 29th minute after connecting with a pass from Barış Alper Yılmaz before finishing past Fenerbahçe goalkeeper Ederson.
The 27-year-old doubled Galatasaray’s advantage in the 44th minute, heading home after Davinson Sánchez directed the ball towards goal.
Fenerbahçe reduced the deficit in the 62nd minute through İrfan Can Kahveci, setting up a tense finish. However, Galatasaray held on to claim all three points.
The victory was an important response from Buruk’s men as they continued their pursuit of another league title.
Osimhen’s performance came after he faced criticism over his recent form, despite scoring in Galatasaray’s 4-2 Champions League victory over his former club, Lille, last week.
The striker has continued to play a key role for the Turkish champions, with his goals against Fenerbahçe underlining his importance to the team.
Galatasaray’s victory also moved them to 22 points after nine league matches, keeping them at the top of the Turkish Super Lig standings.
