Executive Secretary, Tertiary Education Trust Fund (ETF), Professor Bogoro Suleiman, has charged members of the National Research Fund, Screening and Monitoring Committee to take their responsibilities seriously or would be fired.
Bogoro gave the charge when he inaugurated the committee in Abuja, stressing that the Fund would not tolerate absenteeism and other nonchalant attitude.
He said Nigerian professors are respected all over the world and wondered why they were not attending the same level of achievements in science and technology research.
“The Fund would not tolerate absenteeism, you are on a national assignment, so your efforts should move the nation forward” he said. In his acceptance speech, Chairman of the committee, Professor Olufemi Bamiro, who placed some demands before the executive secretary for effective performance of the committee, assured that they would not relent in their assignment.
He reiterated that research and development had remained a driver of development of a nation and noted that the committee was challenged to do a good job for the country.
“We assure that the committee will not disappoint the nation and we expect more proposals from researchers than we had before”, Bamiro said.
Responding to the demands, Bogoro assured that dedicated laptops would be procured, while capacity building workshop on research proposals would be organized for researchers in tertiary institutions in the country.
He disclosed that N10 million was added to this year’s budget to facilitate the programme.
