The Chief of Army Staff, Waidi Shaibu, has hosted troops of the Forward Operations Base in Sobe, Edo State, as part of activities marking the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.
The event, held on Saturday in Owan West Local Government Area, brought together officers and soldiers serving in the area for a special Sallah luncheon aimed at boosting morale and strengthening camaraderie among personnel.
Speaking at the event through the Commander, 4 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Ahmed Balogun, the COAS reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to troop welfare and operational effectiveness.
“They serve in difficult and often demanding environments, far from the comfort of their homes, yet remain steadfast in loyalty and professionalism. Their endurance, sacrifice, and courage represent the true spirit of the Nigerian soldier,” he said.
He urged the troops to remain resolute in the defence of the nation, stressing the importance of resilience and dedication in safeguarding lives and maintaining territorial integrity.
The Army chief also commended the collaboration between the military and other security and intelligence agencies, describing it as critical to sustaining operational success.
“The synergy among our services remains vital to sustaining operational success and national stability. Together, through cooperation and shared commitment, we will continue to confront challenges and preserve the peace and unity of our nation,” he added.
He further conveyed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his continued support to the Armed Forces, noting that the administration’s leadership has strengthened morale and operational capacity.
Earlier in his remarks, the Commander of the Forward Operations Base, Stanley Agboro, described the Sallah luncheon as a symbolic initiative designed to honour the sacrifices of frontline troops and foster unity within the ranks.
“The COAS Luncheon is a significant and symbolic annual event… designed to boost the morale of frontline soldiers, recognise their sacrifices, honour fallen heroes, and strengthen the bonds of camaraderie within the military,” he said.
He also appreciated the presence of local authorities and community leaders, including representatives of the Owan West Local Government and traditional institutions, for their support and cooperation.
The event featured a range of activities including a luncheon, cultural dance performances, comedy presentations and morale boosting songs by the troops, reflecting the spirit of the festive season and solidarity within the military.
