The Federal Government of Nigeria, in collaboration with the International Fund for Agricultural Development, has distributed farming inputs to 83 farmers groups in Nasarawa State.

This was done to ensure food security and cushion the effect of flooding currently ravaging many states in the country.

Speaking at the distribution exercise in Lafia on Tuesday, the State Coordinator of the FGN/IFAD Value Chain Development Programme, Eunice Adgidzi, said the gesture was also aimed at boosting the capacities of farmers to enable them cultivate enough food for residents of the state during the rainy season.

Adgidzi listed the the farm inputs to include 92 irrigation pumps; 40 solar-powered knapsack sprayers; 8 tricycles; 4 power tillers; a set of improved stainless steel rice steam parboiler; and 8 garri processing equipment including grinding machine, communal fryer, hydraulic presser, and cassava chipping machine.

In his speech, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Water Resources, Umar Abubakar Dan’akano, called on the beneficiaries to utilise the inputs to achieve the best results, and commended the FG and IFAD for initiating the programme.
