Police Boss Says Crime Has Reduced in Yobe State

Yobe Commissioner of Police, Yahaya Abubakar, has said there has been crime reduction in the state since the beginning of the year.
He said security situation has improved tremendously in Yobe state despite the dynamic nature of the security environment in the first quarter of 2020.
The Commissioner made this claim while briefing journalists at the Yobe Police Command headquarters along in Damaturu.
He said comparative analysis based on statistics of crime incidents recorded in the state showed that there has been tremendous reduction in major crimes in the first quarter of 2020.
The Commissioner said “it is worthy to note that this year only seven cases of terrorist attacks were recorded unlike in the previous year in which eleven cases were recorded.”
Abubakar, while highlighting the major achievements of the command, said it has succeeded in controlling crimes and increased community safety in the state.
He revealed that the command was able to apprehend 129 suspects for various offenses which include homicide, kidnapping, armed robbery, rape, house breaking and theft.
He said 48 of the suspects have been arraigned in various high courts and magistrate courts for prosecution.
He said of the figure 39 suspects are still standing trial while 9 suspects have already been convicted and sentenced to various jail terms.
He said similarly 59 suspects are still undergoing various stages of investigation for arraignment in courts.
He noted that other achievements of the command include recovery of one AK47 rifle, a locally fabricated automatic pump action gun, 107 live ammunition, five cartridges, a face mask, a Honda Accord Car, two LG Plasma TV Sets, three Samsung DVD recorders, two Techno GSM Handsets, two solar hargers and a TV remote Control.
Also recovered are 13 Sim Cards of Airtel, MTN, Etisalat and Glo Networks, a memory card, and some foreign currency.
The commissioner assured  that the Yobe Police command is ready to enforce all the directives given by the Federal and State Government aimed at preventing the spread of Corona Virus in the state.
