Police Nab 18 Persons for Rape, Sodomy in Adamawa

Eighteen persons have been arrested by the Adamawa State Police Command for alleged involvement in raping of minors and sodomy in the state.

Parading the suspects on Wednesday, the police commissioner, Olugbenga   Adeyanju, said 14 of the accused persons were involved in raping minors across the state,  while four others were arrested for engaging in sodomy.

Adeyanju decried the increasing  rate of rape cases in the state and stressed that the command was intensifying its fight against rape and other violent crimes against women and children.

He observed that such offences were gross violations of human rights.

The police chief stated that  the age of the  arrested suspects ranged between 25 and 45, while bvictims were minors, between the ages of seven and 16.

He narrated how a female suspect, one Zainab Jafaru,  lured a friend of hers to be raped by 9 others at Gerio, a suburb of Yola.

He stated that unknown to the victim, the request that she should accompany Zainab to visit her boyfriend was an organized crime planed by the suspect, as upon arrival, the gang leader invited his syndicate, (8 others), who immediately raped the victim one after the other.

Adding that already five suspects involved in the act have been arrested while four others are being tracked.

Adeyanju, said four other suspects were arrested for  committing offence against the order of nature by engaging themselves in homosexual activities’ and constituting themselves as nuisance.

He appealed to parents and guardians not to hide such crimes and report the cases promptly to police as hiding information tend to encourage the crime.
