A pregnant woman and two other persons lost their lives on Sunday in an auto crash along Benin Asaba-Express way.
Eyewitness, Paul Adah, told our reporter that the accident occurred few metres away from Umunede community near Agbor, and it involved a Peugeot 406 Saloon car with an 18-seater bus which veered off its lane to crash into the 406 saloon car, leaving three persons out four persons inside the car dead on the spot
He said “the 18 seater bus was heading to Benin from Onitsha, while the 406 saloon was going to Onitsha with some persons, suddenly the 18 seater bus veered across the slab on top speed to crash into the 406 Saloon car.
“In fact, the pregnant woman was the first to die, the driver survived, and no life lost in the 18 Seater bus”
But in a reaction, the state commander Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr. Random Kulven, who confirmed the incident to Our reporter, said: “The 18-seater bus veered out of its own lane to crash into the 406 saloon car. We have arrested the driver for his reckless manners, and over speeding. We have also taken the corpses to FMC mortuary, the accident occurred in the early hours while the rain was falling”, and warned commercial drivers to avoid over speeding during raining season.
Investigation revealed that from January to date, over 23 persons have been killed on the Benin-Asaba Express way in accidents, a situation the FRSC boss blamed on negligible acts of commercial drivers who ply the road often to Onitsha and other Eastern states
Igbodo community is another terrible area that has recorded frequent accidents, and most cases reckless drivers are killed by unsuspecting pot holes within the areas.
