Who could have thought that the motorcade of a serving Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and a frontline governorship candidate will be brutally attacked without provocation outside the premises of Benin Airport in a broad daylight?

Senator Monday Okpebholo, the APC governorship candidate flew in from Abuja Airport to Benin Airport this afternoon to continue his grassroot campaigns after attending series of meetings in Abuja.

On his way out of the premises of the Benin Airport by the exit gate, his convoy was ambushed by members of the Edo State Security Network and Edo State Government sponsored thugs allegedly commanded by Francis Inegbeniki.

During the brutal attack carefully planned to assassinate Senator Okpebholo, one of the police security detail who have served Senator Okpebholo for 12 years, Inspector Akor Onu, was brutally murdered in cold blood, while a high number of members of the Senator’s entourage sustained various degree of injury.

Clearly, the unprovoked attack on Senator Monday Okpebholo motorcade was a plot to assassinate the APC governorship candidate.

This brutal attack on a serving Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in the capital of Edo State, is an attack on the institution of the National House of Assembly, and an attack on Federal Government of Nigeria.

Governor Godwin Obaseki can not be allowed to terminate democracy in Edo State due to his desperation to perpetuate himself in office through his protégé.

The brutal murder of Inspector Akor Onu is one death too many in the quest for inordinate political power by a dictator.

Therefore, we wish to use this medium to call on the Inspector General of Police to ensure that the murderers of Inspector Akor Onu are made to face justice.

We humbly call upon Mr President, His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu to save the lives of Edo people from the hands of the tyrant governing Edo State.
