A property agent, Michael Nwachukwu in Asaba, Delta state, has disappeared with his clients’ N3.6 million after they allegedly made payments to secure accommodation from him.
One of the clients, Emeka Dimkpa, who spoke to our reporter in Asaba, said: “We collectively paid N3.6 million in two installments for us to secure accommodation from him, the agent with his office around Anwai Road keeps dribbling us. First, he took us to a building not fenced, no widows, we rejected it, thereafter, he promised another building, we went with him, same old story until last Monday when we discovered his office was locked, and his GSM line switched off.
“We went to his house, we discovered his rooms were locked, people we asked told us they don’t know his whereabouts, but we have reported the matter to the police.”
It was gathered that the agent may have traveled to an undisclosed African country with his immediate family as a neighbour who spoke to our reporter on condition of anonymity said: “…at a function we both attended before he disappeared, he said he will soon travel to an African country as business no longer moves in Asaba.”
Police officers at the “A” Division where the matter was reported, said: “Ae can’t talk to the press, go and meet with the PPRO, he is in charge pls”
But the police spokesman in the state, DSP Andrew Aniamaka, who confirmed the reported incident to our reporter, said “The police are already investigating the matter, though no arrest has been made yet, but frantic efforts are being taken to bring the suspect to Book “
A source also said the agent was once involved in another N300,000 scam; money he allegedly collected from a client who wanted a house, and was not given, but was later resolved at the police station
Further investigation revealed that over six other clients were also seen at the office of the agent waiting to reach him as the time of this report.
