Residents of Edo state have been advised to shun the planned nationwide protests scheduled for Thursday even as Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been accused of masterminding the exercise to give opposition APC a bad name.
The Campaign for Ethics and Good Governance in a statement decried the clandestine mobilisation of youths by the ruling PDP across the state, claiming it was part of Governor Godwin Obaseki’s declaration that Nigeria will burn few weeks ago.
The statement signed by Comrade Lucky Efe, the Convener of the group, noted that they were aware of the plot by the ruling PDP and the state government to use the planned protests to cause mayhem and accuse APC of breaching the peace of the state.
Comrade Efe called on residents of Edo state to shun any act that will disrupt the peace of the state especially with the governorship election just a few weeks away.
He stated that while other state governors were dissuading their youths to eschew the planned protests, Edo state government was on the other hand masterminding youths to go to the streets.
The statement added that the action of the PDP and the governors was intended to smear the government of Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Comrade Efe disclosed that the ruling PDP has also suspended its campaign in the state saying it was in solidarity with the planned protesters.
The Director General of the PDP Campaign, Matthew Idurioyekemen in a statement said the suspension of its campaign was its own way of “showing solidarity with the pauperized Nigerian people.”
But the Campaign for Ethics and Good Governance said that they were looking at the bigger picture of the country because any form of protests will take the nation back to the trenches.
