Road users in Ketu, near Lagos on Friday appealed to the Lagos State Government to repair collapsed portions of the walkway on Ikosi Road in Ketu to save lives.
The road users in separate interviews told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that pedestrians were exposed to the risk of falling into the drainage, due to damage on several portions of the walkway.
A NAN correspondent who visited the area, reports that the walkway had collapsed, exposing road users to danger.
A trader in the area, Mr Azeez Abdulfatai, told NAN that pedestrians who used the route were exposed to danger.
“What we want is for Gov. Fashola to help us replace the cover in damaged portions of the walkway to protect people from falling inside this big gutter.
“One day a man fell inside the gutter and we brought him out with severe wounds; the man could not walk, some people took him to hospital,” he said.
A Sales Girl, Miss Lentena Ogali, said that it was difficult to manoeuvre through the walkway without losing concentration.
“Every time I take this road, I fix my eyes on the ground because I don’t want to fall inside this drain.
“It is a major channel and it is worse during the rainy season because the tide can carry anybody away.
“I cannot concentrate on anything in front or ahead of me because of fear of falling off this walkway,” she said.
A Hair Dresser, Mrs Charity Amadu, commended the State Government for its efforts on road construction and rehabilitation.
She, however, pleaded with the government to repair the walkway.
Residents of the area, Geraldine Amos and Bukky Adeshina, also appealed to the government to replace the entire walkway to save lives. (
