Sack provost now, Adamawa Assembly tells Gov. Bindowo

The Adamawa State House of Assembly has asked the State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Jibrilla Bindow,  to sack the Provost of the state owned College of Education, Hong, Dr Johnson Pongri,  for embezzlement and mismanagement.

In a motion on the floor of the Assembly by the member representing Shelleng state constituency, Umar Abubakar, adopted unanimously by the members, the Assembly directed the commissioner of higher Education to remove  Dr Pongri as his continuous stay in the institution is inimical to the development of education.

 They held that Dr Pongri was found to have fraudulently mismanaged over N300million  being proceeds of funds internally generated in the institution.

 Dr Pongri was also found to be wanting in other serious cases  of abuse of office, official misconduct and malfeasance.

The House further stated that Dr Pongri has issues of integrity, he called himself Professor, while in fact he is not on any professorial chair of any institution.

 He is also said to have exceeded  the number of years in service in accordance with public service act, being above 65 years of age. 

The Assembly acted on a petition written by some concerned persons that the Provost recruited over 200 persons including his wife, children, and close relations. 

He was also said to  had tempered with TETFUND’s  funding of projects in the institution.

 When contacted, Pongri refused to comment on the allegations.
