Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has urged intending pilgrims from Lagos State to prioritize their health before embarking on the 2025 Hajj pilgrimage.

Speaking at the Eid-el-Fitr celebration hosted by the First Family of Lagos State and the Ministry of Home Affairs on Tuesday at the Lagos House, Marina, the governor emphasized the importance of physical well-being for those making the sacred journey.

“By May, the pilgrimage to Mecca will commence soon. I urge everyone traveling to ensure they are in good health. If you are unwell, please refrain from traveling and instead offer prayers here in Nigeria,” Sanwo-Olu advised.

The governor also congratulated Muslims on the successful completion of Ramadan, expressing gratitude for the spiritual renewal, growth, and collective development it has fostered. He encouraged residents to embrace the spirit of giving and support the less privileged during the festivities.

“As we celebrate, let us reflect on the essence of true worship, which goes beyond rituals. It is about how we treat one another and contribute to the progress of our state and nation. Let us renew our faith in Nigeria and remain steadfast in our prayers,” he added.

The event’s guest speaker, Dr Munirudeen Ar-Riyardy of Lagos State University of Education, emphasized the importance of faith during life’s trials and cautioned against sin, urging Nigerians to refrain from cursing their leaders.

Lagos State Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, also called on residents to embody compassion and empathy. “Be kind to your neighbours, show understanding, and continue to have faith in the Almighty’s grace,” he said.

Commissioner for Home Affairs, Mr Ibrahim Layode, further encouraged Muslims to uphold the tenets of Islam in their daily lives, promoting peace, unity, and goodwill within the community.
