The Oyo State chapter of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) has suspended its indefinite strike following a review of the security situation across the state.
The union had embarked on the industrial action after the abduction of schoolchildren in Ogbomoso, Orire Local Government Area, citing concerns over the safety of teachers and pupils as well as the need for improved security in schools.
In a statement jointly signed by the state NUT Chairman, Hassan Fatai, and Secretary, Olukayode Salami, the union said the suspension of the strike followed consultations with the Oyo State Government and appeals from other stakeholders.
The union added that it reviewed the prevailing security situation before deciding to call off the industrial action, paving the way for teachers to return to classrooms.
