Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF),  George Akume, has expressed profound sorrow over the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away today in the United Kingdom.
In a statement issued by Director of Information and Public Relations,

Segun Imohiosen,  speaking on behalf of the Federal Executive Council (FEC), Akume described the late leader as “a true patriot, statesman, and disciplined leader who served Nigeria with honour and integrity.”
He highlighted Buhari’s enduring legacy, which spans his tenure as military Head of State from 1984 to 1985 and his democratic presidency from 2015 to 2023.

“President Buhari’s leadership was defined by a resolute fight against corruption, an unwavering commitment to national unity, and dedicated public service,” the SGF said.

“He led with calm strength, moral clarity, and unmatched devotion to the Nigerian project. His vision for a better, safer, and more transparent Nigeria inspired millions across the country and beyond, as well as generations to come.”
In a mark of respect, President Bola Tinubu, has ordered that the national flag be flown at half-mast nationwide for seven days starting today. Additionally, an emergency Federal Executive Council meeting has been scheduled for Tuesday to pay tribute to the late president and reflect on his contributions to the nation.
Akume extended heartfelt condolences to Mrs. Aisha Buhari, the entire Buhari family, the government, and the people of Katsina State. He concluded with a prayer for the departed soul, saying, “May Allah grant him Al-jannah Firdaus.”
