The attack occurred on Thursday near Marte in Borno’s Monguno Local Government Area, where terrorists ambushed troops on a routine patrol, killing the senior officer and wounding others in a brazen assault on Nigeria’s fight against insurgency.
Speaking on behalf of President Bola Tinubu, the Vice President praised the fallen heroes, stating: “These men wore the uniform for all of us. They stood to protect our communities, our families, and the future of our children. Their courage reminds us that peace and security often come at a very heavy cost.”
According to a statement issued by his media aide, Stanley Nkwocha, the
Vice President, who was received by Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum and top military brass, reaffirmed the Federal Government’s unwavering commitment to the armed forces.
He assured that under President Tinubu’s leadership, “criminals will have no hiding place,” promising sustained operational support and a renewed resolve to crush terrorism in the Northeast.
This visit underscored the administration’s hands-on approach to security challenges amid ongoing operations against Boko Haram and ISWAP remnants, which have intensified in recent months.
