The Global Advocacy for African Affairs (GAAA) and its international partners have conferred the Distinguished Global Amazon (DGA) Award on the First Lady of Sokoto State, Hajiya Fatima Aliyu, in the city of Doha, Qatar.
The award recognizes her efforts in advancing women’s social, economic, and political status, as well as her role in inspiring and empowering women and children.
As part of the recognition, Hajiya Fatima Aliyu will be listed among Africa’s 100 Most Inspiring Women Leaders (Lionesses of Africa), an elite platform celebrating impactful female leaders from diverse sectors.
The award was presented at a high-profile forum attended by female executives, business leaders, legislators, and representatives from civil society organizations.
Discussions at the event focused on gender equity, sustainable development, and the role of women in shaping policies and driving economic growth.
Presenting the award on behalf of Global Advocacy for African Affairs (GAAA) and its international partners, the Executive Director, Dr. Chrys Anyanwu, reaffirmed the organization’s recognition of Hajiya Fatima Aliyu’s leadership and advocacy.
He described her as a role model dedicated to promoting gender empowerment and community development.
The Distinguished Global Amazon Award has previously been bestowed upon notable figures such as Prof. Ruth Oniang’o, the first African female professor of nutrition and 2017 Nobel Food Prize Winner; Amb. Woinshet Tadesse, Ethiopia’s former Permanent Representative to the African Union; H.E. Afra Rahid Al Basti, a member of the UAE Federal National Council and Director-General of the Dubai Foundation for Women and Children; and several First Ladies from across Nigeria and Africa.
