A retired naval officer and senior manager, national security, MTN Nigeria, Lt-Cdr, Sunday Ngegu, and three others were at the weekend, conferred with chieftaincy titles by the traditional ruler of Oligie community, Igbanke in Orhionmwon local government area of Edo State.

He was conferred with the title; “The Osaze l of Oligie, just as three other sons of the community, who included; Celestine Adozie, Ernest Eboigbe and Isioma Aruku were also, honoured with various titles.

While Celestine Adozie is the “Odabemeze l of Oligie, Ernest Eboigbe and Isioma Aruku were conferred with the title: Odozi-ali l of Oligie and, Omeyeni-ali l of Oligie, respectively.

Speaking specifically on the Osaze title conferred on the retired Naval Officer, Ngegu, the traditional ruler of the community, His Royal Majesty (HRM), Lucky Osunde, said it was in recognition and appreciation of his philanthropic dispositions and commitment to the development of the community.

According to the monarch, the beneficiary, Lt-Cdr Sunday Ngegu had over the years championed and sponsored development projects within the community.

He listed some of the projects to include – renovation of dilapidated schools in the community, regular and sustained welfare package for hundreds of widows, sustained scholarship programme for indigent students, welfare package for the local vigilante, among others.

While saying that the honour was a call for more work, the monarch enjoined other sons and daughters of the community to take a cue from the Chief Ngegu by lifting fingers of assistance to the less privileged in the society, pointing out that that was the greatest achievement every individual should be proud of.

In an interview with journalists, the retired naval officer expressed appreciation to the monarch for recognising the “little thing” he has been doing, adding that it was indeed, a call for greater works.

He called on sons and daughters of the community to join hands with the traditional ruler and other well-meaning individuals in developing the community.

“The greatest joy on earth is to live for others. In whatever capacity, we should strive to assist others for that is the greatest achievement anybody can boast of” he said.

At the event held at the palace of the traditional ruler, Ngegu announced a cash donation to the local vigilante just as he distributed food items to 150 widows.
