Pascal Dozie, the renowned Nigerian business mogul and founder of the now-defunct Diamond Bank Plc, has passed away at the age of 85.
His death was confirmed in a statement issued by his family on Tuesday morning.
In a heartfelt message, his son, Uzoma Dozie, shared the family’s grief, saying, “With deep sorrow, but with gratitude to God for a life well spent, we announce the passing of our beloved father, Pascal Gabriel Dozie, on 8th April 2025.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and a man of unwavering Catholic faith. His life was marked by service – to God, his family, and his country.”
He continued, “He is survived by his loving wife, Chinyere, his children, grandchildren, and all who were blessed to know him. We thank God for the gift of his life and the legacy he leaves behind. May his soul rest in perfect peace.”
Born on April 9, 1939, in Egbu, Owerri, Imo State, Pascal Dozie’s journey was one of immense dedication and achievement.
He started his education at Our Lady’s School in Emekuku before pursuing higher studies at the prestigious London School of Economics, where he earned a degree in Economics and a master’s in Administrative Science.
Dozie’s entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish Diamond Bank in 1990, which later merged with Access Bank.
He handed over the reins of the bank to his son, Uzoma, continuing his legacy of leadership and innovation in Nigeria’s financial sector.
In addition to his work in banking, Dozie served as the pioneering chairman of MTN Nigeria, contributing significantly to the telecommunications industry.
His remarkable achievements were recognized with the National Award of Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON) for his invaluable contributions to Nigeria’s banking industry.
Pascal Dozie leaves behind a powerful legacy, not just in the business world but also as a devoted family man and a committed servant to his community and country.
He is survived by his wife, Chinyere, his children, and grandchildren, who will continue to honor his legacy.
