Tinubu Appoints Abba Aliyu MD, Rural Electrification Agency

President Bola Tinubu has announced the appointment of Abba Abubakar Aliyu as the substantive Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA).

The appointment was announced in a statement by Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, and is effective January 23, 2025.

It further said that it is for an initial term of four years.

According to the presidency, Aliyu has been acting as the agency’s managing director since March 2024 until his appointment.

He has over 20 years of experience in energy and organisational development in the private and public sectors. He has played key leadership roles in the on-grid and off-grid power sectors, as well as the water resources and transportation sectors of Nigeria’s economy.

According to Bayo, the President expects Aliyu to use his significant experience to advance the REA’s aim of supplying reliable electric power to rural communities while also contributing to the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda for sustainable energy and power.
