Ahead of the highly anticipated 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) final in Rabat, President Bola Tinubu has sent a heartfelt message to Nigeria’s Super Falcons, urging them to seize the moment and bring home a record tenth continental title.
“Tonight, you stand at the cusp of history as you face the host nation, Morocco, at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat,” Tinubu said.
He praised the team’s impressive performance throughout the tournament, highlighting their unbeaten record in the group stages and the strength they displayed in the knockout rounds.
“If statistics alone win matches, you are already champions,” he added.
The President also commended the team’s sportsmanship, recalling their visit to the injured South African player Gabriela Salgado after the semi-final, calling it “an act of compassion that reflects our shared humanity, empathy, and sisterly affection.”
Expressing government and national support, Tinubu revealed he had sent a presidential delegation to cheer on the Super Falcons in Morocco, including ministers Hannatu Musawa, Doris Uzoka-Anite, Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim, and National Sports Commission Chairman Shehu Dikko.
He concluded with an optimistic rallying cry: “You will finish strong by the Grace of God. Go for the tenth! Bring the trophy home. Your fellow countrymen and women, young and old, are rooting for you.”
The President promised to welcome the team, trophy, and officials back in Abuja, regardless of the outcome.
