Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have arrested a suspected suicide bomber and intercepted materials intended for the production of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in Borno State.

The suspect, identified as Abubakar Mustapha, was apprehended on Monday, December 29, by personnel of the 152 Task Force Battalion, in collaboration with other security agencies, in the Bama Local Government Area.

The Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Northeast Operation Hadin Kai, Lt Col Sani Uba, confirmed in a statement on Tuesday.

According to Lt Col Uba, Mustapha was found at the Banki Central Mosque in possession of primed IED components, signaling a potential imminent attack.

He is currently undergoing interrogation to uncover his sponsors, collaborators, and possible links to terrorist networks in the region.

Lt Col Uba assured that troops of JTF NE Operation Hadin Kai continue to maintain aggressive patrols, intelligence-led operations, and sustained presence to prevent attacks on civilians and critical infrastructure.

He also urged the public to provide credible intelligence to aid ongoing counter-terrorism efforts.

The military reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the North East, noting that morale and fighting efficiency of troops remain high.

This comes days after a suicide bomber killed five and injured 35 worshippers at Al-Adum Jumaat Mosque in Gamboru Market, Maiduguri, on December 24, during evening prayers.
