Troops of 1 Battalion, 8 Division, Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY), have neutralised several suspected Lakurawa terrorists during an encounter in Kangiwa Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

The operation followed several days of sustained tracking and surveillance of the terrorists by the troops, who eventually made contact with the group at a location within the area.

During the encounter, the troops successfully neutralised several terrorists and recovered a cache of weapons and other items believed to be associated with the group.

Items recovered from the terrorists included a PKT machine gun, an AK-47 rifle, rifle magazines and several bandoliers of ammunition.

The troops also recovered four motorcycles, a large sum of money and three mobile handsets.

The recovery of the weapons and mobility assets is expected to further strengthen ongoing efforts by security forces to disrupt the activities of Lakurawa terrorists operating in parts of the North-West.

The operation also underscores the importance of sustained intelligence-led tracking and offensive action in denying terrorist groups freedom of movement and disrupting their logistics and operational capabilities across the OPFY Joint Operations Area.

The troops are sustaining clearance and interdiction operations against terrorist and criminal elements in the affected areas.
