Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued four kidnapped victims after foiling a kidnap attempt in Surimi, a border community between Kebbi and Sokoto states.
The operation, carried out on Friday, July 10, 2026, was completed without any casualties among the troops.
Military sources said the rescue followed credible intelligence that armed terrorists were operating around the Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
Acting swiftly on the intelligence, the troops mobilised to the area and engaged the terrorists in a fierce gun battle.
Overpowered by the troops’ superior firepower, the terrorists abandoned their captives and fled into the surrounding bush.
The four victims were successfully rescued and reunited with their families after the operation.
Security sources described the operation as another major success in the ongoing counter-terrorism campaign under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, reaffirming the military’s commitment to denying criminal elements freedom of operation in the North-West.
