Mr Umoru Peter Ozigi has assumed duty as new Commissioner of Police for Edo.
The Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Moses Yamu announced this in a statement in Benin on Friday night.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Ozigi replaced Nemi Iwo, who was deployed to the state on the eve of the 2024 governorship election in the state.
Yamu said the new commissioner, who hailed from Adavi Local Government of Kogi, is a graduate of Business Administration from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria.
According to the police spokesperson, Ozigi got enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force in 1992 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police, and was trained at the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano.
“He has served the Force in various capacities within the last 30 years, including Commissoner of Police, Force Provost Marshal, Force Headquarters, Abuja
He noted that the new Edo command head had undergone several trainings in the force.
“CP Umoru Peter Ozigi possesses vast experience and knowledge in investigation, Operations and Administration.
“He is a highly disciplined, detribalized and hardworking officer who will wield these attributes to ensure lives and property of all the residents of the State are protected.
“The CP is mindful of the yearnings of the people of Edo State in terms of security and safety and is soliciting for the cooperation of the general public to subdue all forms of crime and criminality in the State,” Yamu said.
