Two hundred members of  the famous Obaseki family bin Benin, Edo state capital, have joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the governorship election holding on September 21 in the state.

The group was led by Osaro Obaseki to the APC campaign rally held at the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) Pavillion, where they also endorsed Senator Monday Okpebholo for governor and Hon Dennis Idahosa as deputy. He also spoke on behalf of the family.

He said their defection was fired by their desire for a more inclusive and progressive political platform.

This unexpected move is seen as a significant boost to APC’s fortunes in Edo State, potentially paving the way for a shift in the state’s political landscape.

At the rally, which attracted all APC factors in the state, especially in Benin City, the lamented the poor infrastructural development in state capital and the state at large.

The governorship candidate of the APC, Senator Monday Okpebholo, expressed gratitude to the Obaseki family and promised to build roads in the city, return ‘red roofs’ to schools, employ 5,000 teachers to man the empty classrooms in the state’s primary and secondary schools, build new hospitals and refurbish existing ones that are in state of disrepair across the state, provide pottable water, provide soft loans to market women, introduce modern tools to drive agriculture, stamp out insecurity across the state and bring back to life.
