The Commissioner of Police Zamfara State Command, (CP) Kolo Yusuf has reassured the general public especially families and the management of Federal University, Gusau, that efforts are ongoing to rescue the two students of the university abducted by suspected bandits in the early hours of Sunday.
This is because the Police Tactical Operatives (PTO) have since intensified search and rescue operation and will not stop until the students are gotten alive said command spokesman Mohammed Shehu.
A release signed by Mohammed Shehu, a superintendent of Police, stated that on the 2nd of April, 2023 at about 0100am, suspected bandits stormed Sabongida village in Bungudu council area breaking into a rented female hostel of the university where they locked up the two civilian guards protecting the students and dispossessed them of their mobile phones before abducting two female students of microbiology department of the university.
“On receipt of the report, the Police Tactical team moved to the scene, but the hoodlums had already fled with the victims to an unknown destination.
“The Commissioner of Police has further deployed reinforcements to complement the ongoing rescue operation to rescue the hostages hale and hearty, arrest the perpetrators and charge them to court for prosecution.
” The Commissioner of Police therefore appeals for continuous support from members of the public to enable the Police to succeed in the rescue mission.” Said the release.
Zamfara has become a hot bed of abduction by bandits who have turned the savanna into their play ground, killing, stealing by way of raids on sleepy communities and outright elimination of residents from their ancestral homes to become internally displaced People (IDPs) in the state capital Gusau and environs.
